PKI for the new German ID Card international
MTG CARA is used by the BSI as the Root-CA of the Federal Republic of Germany for the new ID card.
Assignment
After a call for tenders by the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), MTG wins the contract to implement the root Certification Authority (Root-CA) and Registration Authority (RA) for the new ID card (eID), passport (e-passport) and management PKI. The challenge: to provide a flexible CA to issue X.509 and CV certificates at the highest security level.
Solution
Specific additions for the BSI were realized on the basis of the product MTG CARA. Due to the modular design of the MTG CARA software, the specific requirements (e.g. HSM) could be integrated quickly and simply.
