media transfer AG provides electronic identity server (eID-Server) for the "new Personalausweis"
media transfer AG (mtG) establishes an electronic identity server (eID-Server) to use the new german identity card ("neuer Personalausweis", "nPA") in eCommerce and eGovernment. The server is now marketed under the productname "mtG eID". Thereby mtG forceful complements its product range in security matters.
The german nPA will be launched at November 1th 2010. This credit card - sized identity card will have in addition to the imprinted informations like name, first name, date of birth, adress etc. an electronic chip integrated. Through the data stored on the electronic chip, in future various operations such as logging in into internet sites, registering for services, shopping on the Internet or age verification will be carried out very easy. In those places where previously a personal appearance with a identity card was required to perform an identification, it will be possible even without a personal appearance (an therefore online) to identify oneself. Also eCommerce and eGovernment service provider will benefit from the nPA. Legal shopping will be secured and illegal shopping will be encountered.
For using the nPA online, citizens need an cardreader plugged on their computer, as well as a soon available free software (so called "Citizenclient"). On the side of a service provider a eID server is needed, which handles communication with the chip of the card via card reader, client and citizens during complex security protocols. Such an eID server is sophisticated to realize and must meet the appropriate requirements for security and availability. The media transfer AG now has an potential of about 15 years experience on the realization of such complex systems with highest demands on security, availability, performance and scalability. The "mtG eID-Server" is already present in a core-stable version with various interested parties in the trial operation and will be delivered by the end of September 2010 with full functionality. Interested parties can maintain the mtg eID-Server for a testing environment.
